Job description

You are an electrical engineer who enjoys the commercial side of engineering. This role puts that to work.

ELEK Software is hiring an Electrical Engineer (Technical Sales) to work directly with the engineers who use our world-leading electrical power engineering software - http://www.elek.com

This is not a traditional cold-calling sales role.

Electrical engineers in 50+ countries already find our software, trial it, and use it. Your job is to speak with them, understand the engineering problem they are trying to solve, demonstrate how our software can help, and guide them towards the right licence for their team.

You will have warm, technical conversations with practising engineers, engineer to engineer.

Our customers are electrical engineers, and they can quickly tell whether the person they are speaking with understands their work. That is why we are looking for an electrical engineer with commercial instinct, rather than a generalist salesperson.

You do not need to come from a traditional sales background. You do need to be technically credible, confident speaking with customers, commercially minded, and comfortable asking for the sale.

Duties/responsibilities
  • Run product demonstrations for individual engineers and engineering teams, online and in person.
  • Follow up on inbound enquiries and software trials, and convert suitable opportunities into customers.
  • Speak with engineers to understand their electrical design, power systems, cable, protection, or earthing requirements.
  • Recommend the ELEK products and licensing options that best suit each customer’s engineering workflow.
  • Answer technical and engineering questions during the sales process, drawing on your own electrical engineering experience.
  • Identify and pursue expansion opportunities within existing accounts, including multi-user and site licences.
  • Prepare quotes and proposals, and work through customer procurement requirements.
  • Own your sales pipeline from first conversation through to close, and keep it accurately recorded in our CRM.
  • Build strong technical relationships with engineering customers and key accounts.
  • Use AI tools to research companies, prepare for customer conversations, and improve follow-up.
  • Work with our marketing team on campaigns, webinars, technical content, and other activities that bring engineers to ELEK.
  • Feed customer feedback and engineering requirements back to our product and engineering teams.
  • Represent ELEK at industry events, webinars, conferences, and customer meetings.
  • Report on pipeline, conversion, customer opportunities, and closed business.
Required Skills
  • Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Experience as a practising electrical engineer, ideally in electrical design or power systems.
  • Ability to hold credible technical discussions with practising electrical engineers.
  • Commercial instinct and an interest in the business side of engineering.
  • Comfortable asking for the sale, handling objections, discussing commercial requirements, and hearing no.
  • Excellent verbal communication and the confidence to present and demonstrate technical software.
  • Well organised, with the discipline to follow up consistently and keep accurate records.
  • Comfortable working with AI tools to improve your effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards such as IEC and IEEE.
  • Prior experience in technical sales, pre-sales, applications engineering, business development, or another customer-facing engineering role is highly regarded but not essential.
  • Experience selling software, engineering services, or technical products to engineers is highly regarded.
What we offer
  • Competitive base salary plus performance-based incentive.
  • An initial engagement with a view to a permanent role, so both sides can be confident it is the right fit.
  • Hybrid working from our Sydney CBD office, inside the Centre for Innovation.
  • Warm, technically engaged prospects rather than cold lists.
  • The opportunity to use your electrical engineering background in a commercial and customer-facing role.
  • Direct exposure to engineering companies and practising electrical engineers across Australia and internationally.
  • Scope to grow into senior commercial, account management, or sales leadership responsibilities.
  • Modern AI tooling and real ownership of how you work, with minimal bureaucracy.
