Job summary

Hutchison Ports Australia in Sydney is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the safe, compliant and reliable operation of our automated container terminal.

This hands-on role covers electrical design, installation, maintenance and compliance across HV/LV assets, protection and drive systems, PLCs and contractor oversight, with mentoring and continuous improvement as part of a safety‑focused team. Applicants must be located in Sydney and hold Australian working rights.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years’ engineering experience with heavy industrial electrical equipment.
• Experience with High Voltage and Low Voltage equipment.
• Experience with HV and LV protection systems.
• Experience with drive systems and PLC ladder logic.
• Strong understanding of electrical compliance requirements, Australian Standards and relevant legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, consultants or technical work groups.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Current driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional electrical engineering advice across terminal assets and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, laws, policy and procedures.
• Develop, improve and implement electrical engineering procedures and safe work practices.
• Support compliance and improvement of HV/LV, protection, drive systems and PLC controls.
• Lead or assist with electrical engineering projects and equipment upgrades.
• Assist procurement activities for electrical equipment, services, contractors and consultants.
• Manage contractors and consultants on HV and LV activities.
• Provide training and mentoring to other employees.
• Identify and report hazards and promote safe work practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of equipment reliability, compliance, safety and performance.
• Share technical knowledge across Hutchison Ports Australia facilities.
• Undertake the role of technical specialist as required.
• Perform occasional work outside normal hours when required.
