Job summary

Modus Projects seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer – BMS Programming to design, program, test and commission Building Management Systems across a range of commercial and industrial projects in Australia. You will work closely with our Energy team to deliver high-quality BMS solutions that maximise building performance and energy efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience designing, programming and commissioning Building Management Systems (BMS) on commercial or industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, instrumentation and communications protocols including BACnet, Modbus or LonWorks.
  • Experience producing BMS documentation and control narratives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and configure BMS control strategies and software logic.
  • Program, test and commission BMS controllers and integrated building systems.
  • Develop and maintain BMS documentation including control narratives, points lists and as-built drawings.
  • Integrate BMS with third-party systems such as HVAC, lighting, metering and security.
  • Perform on-site commissioning, testing and optimisation to maximise energy efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve software, network and control system faults.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and commissioning teams to meet project specs.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with tenders, estimates and project variations.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer – BMS Programming to play a key role in designing, programming, testing and commissioning Building Management Systems (BMS) across a diverse range of commercial and industrial projects.

Working closely with our Energy team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality BMS solutions that maximise building performance, improve energy efficiency and ensure safe, reliable operation of building services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and configure BMS control strategies and software logic.
  • Program, test and commission BMS controllers and integrated building systems.
  • Develop and maintain BMS documentation including control narratives, points lists, I/O schedules and as-built documentation.
  • Integrate BMS with third-party systems including HVAC equipment, lighting controls, power monitoring, security systems and metering.
  • Perform on-site commissioning, testing, tuning and optimisation to ensure system performance and energy efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve software, network, instrumentation and control system faults.
  • Work collaboratively with electrical, mechanical and commissioning teams to deliver projects on time and to specification.
  • Provide technical support, training and guidance to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with technical input for tenders, estimates and project variations.
  • Promote continuous improvement through the standardisation of BMS engineering practices and innovative solutions.
Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, programming and commissioning Building Management Systems (BMS) on commercial or industrial projects.
  • Experience with one or more major BMS platforms such as Schneider, Siemens, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, instrumentation and communications protocols including BACnet, Modbus or LonWorks.
  • Experience producing technical documentation including control schematics, functional descriptions and electrical drawings.
  • Excellent fault-finding, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities across project environments.
  • A proactive approach with a commitment to delivering quality outcomes and exceptional customer service.
