Job summary

EMR Switchboards Pty Ltd in Northgate, Qld, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead design, engineering coordination, and quality assurance for switchboards, MCCs, distribution boards and custom control panels.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical power distribution, control systems and applicable electrical standards.

• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of PPE and electrical safety practices.
• Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review electrical designs and single-line diagrams.
• Perform electrical calculations including cable sizing and equipment selection.
• Ensure switchboards comply with AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 61439.
• Coordinate electrical engineering projects, including technical reviews and procurement support.
• Support FAT, inspection and commissioning activities.

• Sound knowledge of electrical safety practices, risk assessment, lockout/tagout procedures, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams to complete projects efficiently and safely.

Task & responsibilities About the role The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, technical coordination, quality assurance and project management of electrical switchboards, motor control centres (MCCs), distribution boards and custom electrical control panels.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Prepare and review electrical designs, schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings and technical documentation.
• Perform electrical engineering calculations, including cable sizing, busbar sizing, short-circuit withstand, temperature rise and equipment selection.
• Ensure electrical switchboards and control panels comply with applicable Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 61439.
• Prepare and review bills of materials (BOM), technical specifications and engineering documentation for manufacturing.
• Coordinate electrical engineering projects, including technical reviews, procurement support, production requirements and project delivery.
• Conduct design verification, quality assurance inspections and technical assessments to ensure compliance with approved designs and client specifications.
• Provide engineering support to production teams, resolve technical issues and coordinate with suppliers and clients.
• Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), inspection and commissioning support where required.
