Job summary

ANSTO is seeking an Electrical Controls Systems Technician/Specialist to design, draft, cabling, and test PLC and motion control systems. You will manage end-to-end deployment, perform maintenance and fault-finding, and ensure compliance with standards.

You will deploy field-tested control systems, program motion controllers, and manage power distribution and UPS maintenance. An electrical contractor's licence is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and deploying PLC and motion control systems.
  • Ability to interpret standards and apply safe electrical practices.
  • Capability to manage end-to-end deployment and testing of control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain NBI motion control systems for precise positioning.
  • Maintain NBI safety interlock systems ensuring staff safety.
  • Lead design, programming, deployment and maintenance of SIS across projects.
  • Train staff and prepare induction and training materials.

About the Opportunity

The Electrical Controls Systems Technician/Specialist is responsible for designing, drafting, cabling, and testing of PLC and Motion control systems. Working with the other ACNS Electrical Engineering team members you will take a specification from stakeholders and manage the complete end to end deployment of the control systems. Maintenance, fault finding, and repairs of existing electrical control systems is a significant part of the position requirements. You will have the opportunity to program motion controllers and PLCs and deploy these systems in the field and test against functional requirements and standardised protocols. This position requires an electrician with an electrical contractor's licence and is also responsible for the management of the maintenance and testing of the power distribution and UPS systems.

You will be expected to produce well documented and rigorously tested accurate control systems with cabling that is not only safe, it is also accurate, functional, maintainable, accessible, neat, tidy and clearly labelled according to the drawing. Your Duties and Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities Band 4

  • Install and maintain Neutron Beam Instruments (NBI) motion control systems to provide reliable and robust positioning of instruments, samples and other system related to the NBI including moveable shielding.
  • Install and maintain Neutron Beam Instruments (NBI) Safety Interlock System (SIS) to ensuring personal safety of ANSTO staff and non-employees
  • Maintain all aspects of the motion positioning systems to ensure a high quality and reliability, devising solution for maximising the effective use of the neutron beam instruments including the recommendations for spare parts holdings

Key Accountabilities Band 5 In addition to accountabilities at Band 4, Band 5 requires:

  • Lead the design, programming, deployment and maintenance of the Neutron Beam Instruments (NBI) safety interlock systems (SIS) ensuring personal safety of ANSTO staff and non-employees.
  • Interpret and apply Australian Standards for Machine Safety and Australian regulatory requirements of the NBI SIS to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Project management of operational and capital projects, including conceiving and proposing new projects, according to ACNS plans and objectives, developing the technical case, prepare costing, organising quotes and planning execution.
  • Training of staff in the use of the SIS including documentation and preparation of induction and training materials.
