Overview

Electrical Colo Regional Engineer, Colocation Regional Engineering (CRE) – Melbourne, Australia. AWS Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates AWS global infrastructure including data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling to ensure reliable access for customers.

You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers working to maintain safety and security while delivering maximum capacity at the lowest possible cost.

Responsibilities

• Work with colo vendors to review the design for new data centers in your region, including design input, submittal review, and incorporating AWS products to meet AWS expectations.
• Act as resident engineer during new colo construction projects; support construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and create corrective action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
• Provide technical support to design for existing data center upgrades to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
• Support operating partners to lead, review, and approve designs for existing colo data center upgrades to improve availability and efficiency.
• Interface with operating partners, data center design engineering, server hardware, and safety teams to promote standards ensuring reliability in services delivered by operating partners.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering site audits within leased or colo data centers and produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities).
• Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
• Direct experience with design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as resident engineer or hands-on field design consultant.
• Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
• Experience owning fast-track design/build projects or multiple significant upgrade projects.
• Understanding of both mechanical and electrical data center equipment and design (e.g., UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, PDU, VFDs, ATS, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAHs, air economizers).
• Knowledge of continuous operating redundant electrical and cooling systems and building management systems.
