Job summary

CPP is seeking an Electrical Apprentice to join our manufacturing division (CPI) based in Wingfield, SA. The four-year Dave Evans Apprenticeship Program offers on-the-job training, site rotations and hands-on experience wiring control panels and modular switchrooms used on major high-voltage projects.

You will learn to read electrical schematics, wire panels, install equipment, and participate in test and commissioning activities while completing your formal trade qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Must be keen to pursue an electrician career.
  • Year 11 completed; Year 12 preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Willing to learn and work in a team.
  • Positive attitude and safety commitment.
  • Enjoy hands-on, workshop-based work and precise workmanship.
  • Interest in electrical wiring, control systems and problem-solving.
  • Previous electrical studies or workshop experience is valued but not essential.
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence or working toward one.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assembly and wiring of protection and control panels.
  • Learn to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Support manufacture and fit-out of kiosks and modular switchrooms.
  • Complete cable terminations and inter-panel wiring.
  • Assist with switchroom retrofit and upgrade projects.
  • Support testing, fault finding and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain workshop safety, housekeeping and quality standards.
  • Work closely with qualified electricians to develop skills.

Program Overview

Supported by MEGT and Apprenticeship Support Australia, our four-year program offers:

  • On-the-job training and rotations across projects and sites
  • Off-the-job block/day release training delivered by TAFE SA
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Systems Electrician upon completion
The Opportunity

We are seeking an Electrical Apprentice to join our manufacturing division (CPI) based in Wingfield, SA.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your electrical trade within a specialised area of the industry. As part of your apprenticeship, you will work alongside experienced tradespeople building and wiring control panels, protection systems and modular switchrooms used on major high-voltage infrastructure projects throughout Australia.

You’ll gain hands‑on experience reading electrical schematics, wiring panels, installing equipment and testing completed assemblies, while completing your formal trade qualifications. As your skills develop, you’ll have the opportunity to gain exposure across both our panel building and switchroom assembly teams, building a strong foundation for a long‑term career in the power and renewable energy sectors.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the assembly and wiring of protection and control panels
  • Learning to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings
  • Supporting the manufacture and fit out of kiosks and modular switchrooms
  • Completing cable terminations and inter-panel wiring
  • Assisting with switchroom retrofit and upgrade projects
  • Supporting testing, fault finding and quality assurance activities
  • Maintaining workshop safety, housekeeping and quality standards
  • Working closely with qualified electricians and tradespeople to develop your skills
About You
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career as an Electrician
  • Have completed Year 11 (Year 12 preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Willingness to learn, take direction and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to safety
  • Enjoy detailed, hands‑on work in a workshop environment and take pride in producing neat and accurate workmanship
  • Strong interest in electrical wiring, control systems and technical problem-solving
  • Previous electrical studies, vocational training, workshop experience or involvement in practical hobbies/projects will be highly regarded but not essential
  • Hold a valid driver's licence or be working towards obtaining one
