Applications are invited for a one-year non-ongoing, full-time position for an Electorate Officer A in the office of the Hon Josh Wilson MP, based in the Member’s Electorate Office in Fremantle, Western Australia.

The successful applicant will be values-driven person who wants to be involved in the work of an office that seeks to make a difference in the Fremantle electorate and in the national parliament. This role would suit someone who holds a strong interest and experience in digital media and is motivated by the importance of public service, public policy, social justice, and shared wellbeing.

This contract is for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility for ongoing employment following the backfilling arrangement.

Position overview

The Electorate Officer A – Digital Media will play a key role in developing and delivering the Member’s digital communications and supporting the broader communications and community engagement work of the electorate office.

The position has a particular focus on the creation of engaging, accurate information, and timely content across the Member’s social media channels, website, eDMs and other digital platforms.

The role will suit a creative, organised and community-minded person who has strong written and visual communication skills, understands digital and social media, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced political environment.

As part of a small team, the position also requires a willingness to contribute to the broader work of the electorate office, including constituent service, events, correspondence and administrative tasks.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

• Planning, creating, delivering and managing information, and engaging and dynamic content for social media, the Member’s website, e-bulletins, and other digital communications content.
• Photography, videography, graphic design, and text production.
• Responding to constituent needs and enquiries.
• Local travel may be required for this role, and irregular work hours, including outside of standard business hours and some weekends.
• Promote, support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
• Other duties as required to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

Applicants should possess the following skills, experience, and personal qualities:

• A creative outlook with a specific interest in the creation of high-quality, compelling digital content.
• Skill and demonstrated experience in digital communications, social media, content creation, journalism, marketing, media photography, videography, graphic design or a related field.
• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and effectively for a range of audiences and platforms.
• Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
• A natural interest in public service, government, and politics.
• An aptitude for working with people, being team-oriented, adaptable, and emotionally intelligent.
• Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

• A commencing salary between $77,071 and $81,594 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
• An additional optional allowance up to $24,008 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
• Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
• An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

• An initial probationary period of three months will apply.
• Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
• The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (Negative Vetting Level 2) and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
• The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
