Peoplebank is sourcing an EL1 Software Engineer (SAP S/4HANA) for a Canberra-based, long-term contract with hybrid working arrangements. The role focuses on leading enterprise solutions using SAP S/4HANA, ABAP, UI5, Angular and Node.js, overseeing architecture, releases and stakeholder collaboration.

You will mentor teams, ensure secure, scalable designs and align with government standards while delivering complex integration projects and continuous improvements in software engineering practices.

Qualifications

• SFIA Level 5 aligned software development expertise.
• Experience evaluating emerging technologies and architectural trends.
• Strong knowledge of software design, systems design and integration practices.
• Experience with release and deployment management.
• Experience implementing software standards and configurations.
• Strong testing experience incl. test planning, execution and automation.
• Ability to provide specialist technical advice and recommendations.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

About the Role

Our Federal Government client is seeking an EL1 Software Engineer (SAP S/4HANA). This is a long-term contract opportunity based in Canberra, with hybrid working arrangements available.

As the selected candidate, you will:

• Lead the design, development, deployment and support of enterprise solutions using SAP S/4HANA, ABAP, UI5, Angular and Node.js
• Drive software development, systems integration, release management and testing activities across complex ICT programs
• Provide technical leadership, code quality oversight and software engineering best practices
• Design and implement scalable, secure and maintainable solutions aligned with government standards
• Lead software releases, production deployments and ongoing support activities
• Collaborate with stakeholders, technical teams and service providers to deliver business outcomes
• Review technical requirements and provide solution architecture recommendations
• Mentor and lead development teams while promoting a high-performance culture

Must-have Technical Skills

• Strong experience with SAP S/4HANA
• Development experience using ABAP
• Front-end development experience with SAP UI5
• Modern web application development using Angular
• Back-end development experience using Node.js
• Experience delivering complex systems integration and software development projects
• Experience leading software design, build, testing and deployment activities
• Strong understanding of software engineering methodologies, release management and configuration management
• Experience providing technical leadership within large-scale enterprise or government environments

Essential Criteria

• Software development expertise aligned with SFIA Level 5
• Experience monitoring and evaluating emerging technologies and architectural trends
• Strong knowledge of software design, systems design and integration practices
• Demonstrated experience with release and deployment management
• Experience implementing software configuration and development standards
• Strong testing experience including test planning, execution and automation frameworks
• Ability to provide specialist technical advice and recommendations
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

It is desirable if you have:

• Previous Federal Government experience or experience within a large-scale enterprise environment
• Experience with configuration management processes and tools
• Knowledge of government security, privacy and information management frameworks
• Experience contributing to technology roadmaps and strategic planning
• Experience leading multidisciplinary development teams

Security Requirements

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian Citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
