Job summary

Hamlyn Views School in Geelong seeks an Education Support staff member to provide individualised support to a student with complex learning, communication and behavioural needs. You will work closely with teachers and the education support team to promote wellbeing, safety and participation throughout the school day.

The role requires patience, resilience and the ability to respond calmly to heightened emotions or behaviours, while following individual student plans and school policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support to students with complex needs.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with students.
• Support students in classroom learning, routines and activities.
• Implement individualised behaviour support strategies under supervision.
• Assist students to recognise and manage emotions and use appropriate communication.
• Recognise triggers and respond proactively to changes in student behaviour.
• Provide calm, consistent support during heightened emotion or concerns.
• Support student safety by following school procedures and strategies.
• Assist with transitions between activities and areas of the school.
• Encourage independence, participation and sense of belonging.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff for consistent support.
• Communicate observations and progress to the team.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment.
