Job description

We're looking for a product-minded Education Software Experience Designer who sits at the intersection of curriculum design, learning experience design, UX, product and AI.

This is first and foremost a software product role with an education specialism, with a significant focus on how AI can be used practically in teaching and learning. We're looking for someone who can identify where AI genuinely improves a classroom experience and enables something new and fresh to the EdTech space.

Experience as a qualified teacher isn't required, but classroom teaching experience would be highly valued. EdTech experience is required.

You need a deep understanding of how pedagogy and technology work together in learning design, along with industry experience as a learning designer, curriculum designer, education designer or in a similar role.

You must already be highly comfortable with AI and have significant experience driving it for significant outcomes on some sort of projects, whether professional or personal. This is important, and we need someone who can show that they understand both what AI can do and (just as importantly) where its limitations are.

This isn't a role for someone who simply takes requirements and executes them. We want someone who can help decide what should be built and why. You should be able to start with an unclear problem, run discovery, talk to teachers and schools, understand the commercial opportunity, explore how AI or other technology might solve it, prototype ideas, test them and work with product and engineering teams to get useful products shipped.

A major part of the work will involve identifying worthwhile applications of AI in education. That includes looking for opportunities to save teachers time across lesson delivery, assessment, differentiation and administration, as well as finding ways technology can reduce costs for schools.

Very comfortable working with educators, product people, designers and engineers

Commercial thinking is a major part of the job. Good educational ideas aren't enough on their own. You need to think about whether a problem matters enough to a school, whether the proposed solution creates measurable value, whether people will use it, whether they'll pay for it, and whether AI makes the proposition meaningfully better. The role is expected to consider customer value, willingness to pay, new sales, upsell and retention alongside educational impact.

And we'd want to understand how you approach a real project: how you identify the problem, run discovery, research users and the market, explore the role AI could play, assess the commercial case, develop and test possible solutions, make trade-offs, manage competing priorities and get a product delivered.
