Job description

We are seeking to establish a pool of Mainstream Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

At Northam Primary School (PS), we cater for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and currently have just over 300 students. Our students come from the local town and from the outlying farms and rural properties.

Our school fosters a safe and inclusive learning environment; we focus on building positive relationships with students, parents, carers and with the wider community. Our staff, comprising of newly graduated teachers through to teachers with many years of experience and dedicated non-teaching staff, work together to develop individual potential through excellence in education. We have specialist teachers in science, visual arts, Noongar language and physical education.

We aim to provide our students with a well-rounded high-quality education. We believe in developing the understandings, skills and attitudes relevant to individual needs, enabling students to fulfil their potential and contribute positively to the development of our society.

The Role

Suitable applicants should ideally display the ability to communicate effectively, be able to assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs and under teacher direction, implement individual or small group lessons. Suitable applicants should be organised and use their initiative to assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment.

The ability to cater to the diverse learning needs of students, together with a dynamic and highly collaborative approach, is essential to meeting the needs of all learners. In addition, the ability to model, develop, and implement exemplary and innovative classroom practices is vital to this role.

Flexibility, openness to change, and a commitment to our school's moral purpose are highly valued. We value staff who are creative in their use of resources and strategies and can do so independently or in response to direction from teachers. An ability to work effectively with different staff members, teaching styles, and learning activities, while displaying initiative, is highly desirable.
