Senior Structural Engineer - Dams & Hydro

About the role:

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our growing water infrastructure team. This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid grounding in structural design who thrives on first principles thinking, is confident with finite element analysis, and has a keen interest in the interaction between structural, geotechnical, and seismic disciplines.

Projects include the design and assessment of concrete dams, spillways, pump stations, reservoirs, water treatment structures, and associated hydraulic infrastructure.

Key responsibilities :

  • Undertake structural analysis and design for dams and hydraulic structures using first principles and code-based approaches.
  • Support linear and nonlinear analysis under static and dynamic loading. Software may include SAP2000, Midas, and Abaqus, including post-processing and interpretation.
  • Automate and streamline design workflows using Python or Excel VBA.
  • Integrate geotechnical and seismic considerations into structural design solutions.
  • Assist in the preparation of design reports, specifications, and assessments.
  • Participate in client meetings, design coordination, and construction-phase support.
  • Support proposal preparation and scoping for new projects.

About You :

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural focus (Honours or Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in structural engineering, ideally with exposure to dam or hydraulic structures.
  • Proficient in reinforced concrete and structural steel design.
  • Experience with structural analysis tools such as SAP2000, Midas, or Abaqus.
  • Competent in Python and/or Excel VBA for engineering applications.
  • Knowledgeable in geotechnical engineering fundamentals and seismic response of structures.
  • Strong analytical thinker with a practical and creative approach to solving structural challenges.
  • Previous site experience (inspections, assessments, construction support) viewed favorably.
  • Strong communicator who enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines.
