Job summary

Cloncurry Shire Council in Queensland is seeking an proactive Economic Development Officer to help deliver the Council’s priorities and promote Cloncurry as a place to do business and a unique tourism destination. You will work with businesses, government and community stakeholders to identify opportunities, support investment, and deliver initiatives that drive growth, urban renewal and tourism promotion.

  • Tertiary qualification in economic development or related field or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
  • Experience working within a local government environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships between Council, local businesses, chambers of commerce, tourism operators, government and community stakeholders.
  • Support businesses looking to establish, expand or invest in Cloncurry.
  • Deliver economic development initiatives including investment attraction, urban renewal and revitalisation programs.
  • Develop destination marketing content and support promotional and public relations activities.
  • Collect and analyse economic and tourism data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Prepare funding and grant applications and support project delivery and acquittals.
  • Work with industry to identify development, training and tourism opportunities.
  • Support local events, programs, visitor services and promotional activities.

What We Offer:
  • Full time - Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award - Level 4 - 5 $80,800- $89,700 per annum (Depending on Qualifications and Experience) + Superannuation

About The Role:

Reporting to the Tourism and Economic Development Manager, you will help deliver Council’s economic development priorities and promote Cloncurry as both a place to do business and a unique tourism destination.

The role brings together economic development, stakeholder engagement, project delivery, investment attraction, tourism promotion and grants. You will work closely with businesses and industry to identify opportunities, support new and existing operators and help deliver initiatives that contribute to the region’s continued growth.

Key responsibilities:
  • Building strong relationships between Council, local businesses, Chambers of Commerce, tourism operators, government and community stakeholders
  • Supporting businesses looking to establish, expand or invest in Cloncurry

About You:

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised officer who can build strong relationships with local businesses, government, community groups and industry stakeholders. You will act as a key liaison between Council and the region’s business community, supporting clear communication, issue resolution and stakeholder feedback while helping turn ideas and opportunities into practical outcomes.

You Will Demonstrate:
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, networking and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to research, analyse and communicate information clearly in plain English
  • Experience supporting or delivering projects, programs or economic development initiatives
  • Strong planning, organisation and time-management skills
  • Confidence preparing reports, presentations, funding applications and other professional documentation
  • Sound problem-solving, negotiation and creative-thinking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with businesses, government, community organisations and volunteer-based groups
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Mandatory Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in a field relevant to economic development or demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
  • Experience working within a local government environment.
