Job description

The Team:

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Anatomical Pathology Department within the RHH is the tertiary referral centre for Anatomical Pathology in Tasmania. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

The Pathology Technician will perform technical anatomical pathology laboratory work requiring the application of conventional practices, methods, and standards performed under the general technical direction and supervision of the Medical Scientist in Charge. The work includes routine and specialised procedures on various specimens and the preparation of specimens for examination, diagnosis, and additional procedures.

You will need:
  • Knowledge of histology and cytology technical principles and practices, including specimen preparation for examinations.
  • Awareness of laboratory safety requirements and procedures, including the safe handling and storage of chemicals.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritise work.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full-time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for up to twelve (12) months. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for twelve months from the publication date, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies.

Salary:

$73,811 to $79,779 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
