Job description

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Early Childhood Teacher to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will plan, implement and evaluate play-based educational programs, assess and document children's learning and development, and maintain a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment. You will work closely with educators, families and management to support each child's learning, development and wellbeing. The position requires sound knowledge of early childhood education principles, approved learning frameworks, child development, regulatory requirements and reflective teaching practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate, play-based educational programs in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework, the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and Brighton Beach ELC's educational philosophy.
  • Apply the centre's Reggio Emilia-inspired approach by observing and responding to children's interests, questions and ideas, and supporting their active participation in curriculum decisions.
  • Design engaging indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage exploration, investigation, creativity and collaborative learning, recognising the environment as an important contributor to children's learning.
  • Develop children's early literacy, numeracy, language and communication skills through storytelling, books, role play, songs, rhymes, discussions and meaningful play-based experiences.
  • Plan learning experiences incorporating art, music, science, movement and natural investigation to support children's intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.
  • Use intentional teaching and responsive interactions to extend children's thinking, problem-solving, independence, confidence and cooperative skills.
  • Observe, assess and document children's learning, strengths, interests and developmental progress, and use this information to inform individual and group curriculum planning.
  • Monitor children's health, nutritional wellbeing, welfare and safety needs; recognise concerns or barriers affecting participation and learning; and work with families and relevant professionals to arrange appropriate support.
  • Embed sustainability into educational programs and daily routines through gardening, composting, caring for plants and exploring natural materials.
  • Build respectful relationships with children and families, incorporating family perspectives, cultural backgrounds and children's voices into educational planning and everyday practice.

About you

  • Strong understanding of child development, inclusive practice, child safety, supervision and duty of care.
  • Current first aid, anaphylaxis and emergency asthma management qualifications, or willingness and ability to obtain the required qualifications before commencing employment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, educators and management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an early childhood education team.
  • Professionalism, reliability, strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
