Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic Associate Telecoms Engineer to support a telecommunications engineering team in designing, testing, implementing, and delivering communications systems for major infrastructure projects in Perth, Australia.

The role targets recent graduates or early‑career engineers with up to 1–2 years' experience in telecoms, electrical, electronics, or computer engineering, and a strong interest in IP networking, radio communications, and design/testing activities.

Qualifications

• Recent university graduate or early‑career engineer with up to 1–2 years' experience in telecommunications, electrical, electronics, or computer engineering.
• Strong interest in telecom systems, IP networking, radio communications, transmission networks, and engineering design/testing.
• Willing to learn design documentation, configuration support, testing, commissioning, and project delivery under supervision.
• Good analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to apply technical information practically.
• Clear communication; capable of working with engineers, project teams, clients, vendors and site personnel.
• Proactive attitude, attention to detail, and willingness to support site and office activities.
• Commitment to safety and industry standards; contribute to high‑quality project outcomes.
• Strong computer literacy; willingness to learn new tools; develop capability across design, testing and commissioning.
• Eligibility for Engineers Australia graduate membership or willingness to pursue professional development.

Responsibilities

• Support an experienced telecommunications engineering team in design, testing, implementation and delivery of communications systems for major infrastructure projects.
• Develop practical skills across telecommunications systems, IP networking, radio communications, fibre optic and copper transmission systems, power systems, and related infrastructure.
• Assist with design documentation, configuration support, testing, commissioning, and project delivery under supervision.
