Job Description

Analyzing and advising on policies related to climate and energy systems in Australia and Asia-Pacific countries to support the design, implementation, and enhancement of environmental operations and programs.

Preparing technical reports and policy briefs that evaluate climate and energy policies, including providing expert advice in response to media and stakeholder inquiries.

Monitoring, interpreting, and assessing environmental and climate-related data, including greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and projections at both national and sub-national levels.

Collecting and evaluating environmental market data to inform policy development and program implementation.

Examining the interrelationships between climate, energy, and environmental policy, providing integrated policy recommendations.

Applying and enhancing energy-environment system modelling tools to inform the development of sustainable, 1.5°C-aligned decarbonisation strategies at regional and national levels.

Assessing the environmental policy implications of data from energy system modelling and contributing to data-driven environmental planning.

Supporting the development of environmental decision-support tools by contributing relevant data, contextual analysis, and policy scenarios.

Conducting research into best practice environmental and climate governance, and developing evidence-based policy advice and strategic recommendations.

Assisting in the preparation of proposals for environmental programs and policy advisory services.

Your Profile
Essential Criteria
  • Master’s degree in climate economics, climate policy, energy studies, or related field. Comparable experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in climate mitigation policy research.
  • Excellent quantitative skills, including high-level Excel proficiency.
  • Foundational understanding of energy system modelling and scenario analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience with energy systems modelling tools such as LEAP.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent English writing and verbal skills.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working with developing countries.
  • Experience working with China.
  • Knowledge of climate change and energy policy in the Australia and Asia-Pacific context.
