Description:

The Early Childhood Teacher provides active leadership to Educators and Room Leaders in developing, implementing, and evaluating a child-focused education and care curriculum aligned with the service philosophy and the National Quality Framework.

The role includes supporting the professional learning of staff and upholding the mission and Christian faith principles of the centre.

In respect of the Mission

  • Uphold the vision of the Centre, support and teach Biblical truths, and encourage families and staff through prayers and other supportive methods.

In respect of Personal Faith

  • Be an active member of a Christian church, promoting and displaying Christian teaching.
  • Participate in regular staff evaluations focusing on personal, spiritual, and professional development.

In respect of Education and Care of Children

  • Act in the best interests of the child; implement a high-quality curriculum consistent with:
  • The Service philosophy, policies, and procedures;
  • Education and Care Services National Regulations and Law;
  • The National Quality Standards; and
  • Early Years Learning Framework.

Support, lead, and mentor other educators to embed the Learning Framework into the curriculum, ensuring:

  • Learning is visible;
  • Responsive to advice from Educational Leaders;
  • Documented professionally and maintained cyclically;
  • Linked to Framework outcomes and early learning theories.

Provide leadership in observation, evaluation, documentation, and planning for children and families, ensuring inclusive environments that respect diversity, support emotional and social wellbeing, and promote physical care and development.

Maintain developmental and service planning documentation, support children’s individual wellbeing, and contribute to an environment that stimulates curiosity and exploration, acknowledging indoor and outdoor environments as the 'third teacher.'

Ensure activities meet developmental needs and comply with NQF documentation requirements.

Partnerships with Families and Community

  • Build respectful, inclusive relationships with families, recognizing their role as the child's first teacher.
  • Engage in orientation, enrolment, and transition processes with guidance from supervisors.

Partnerships with Educators and Professionals

  • Develop ethical communication channels based on mutual respect and fairness;
  • Support staff and student placements;
  • Inform supervisors of issues affecting service quality and compliance;
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Plans and perform additional duties as needed.

Professional Conduct and Learning

  • Work within the NQF, Code of Ethics, and service policies;
  • Contribute to team processes and ongoing professional learning;
  • Undertake required training in Food Safety, First Aid, and Child Protection.

Organisational and Safety Responsibilities

  • Support the philosophy and policies of SPCC and the Centre;
  • Attend staff meetings and support workplace health and safety policies;
  • Follow child protection and safety procedures, including reporting obligations;
  • Administer first aid and medication according to policies;
  • Share cleaning duties and respond to children’s additional needs.

Essential Qualities:

  • Knowledge of Education and Care Regulations;
  • Strong partnership skills with families;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to support and lead staff;
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development;
  • Current First Aid, Anaphylaxis, Asthma, and Child Protection certifications;
  • Provisional/Conditional/Proficient NESA registration;
  • Clear Working with Children Check.

Skills and Experiences:

  • Willingness to be appointed as Nominated Supervisor or Educational Leader;
  • Experience in curriculum development and documentation;
  • Postgraduate or leadership qualifications are desirable.
