Role Overview

The Rapid Improvement Team is seeking an Assistant Director to quickly assess, develop, and document opportunities to better utilize resources across all biosecurity pathways. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting objective, systematic business analysis to derive accurate conclusions from diverse evidence sources.
  2. Leading the design, development, and implementation of initiatives, strategies, or methodologies related to regulation, policy, operational, technical, IT, or service delivery to enhance division capacity.
  3. Engaging and collaborating with stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes, and facilitate cooperation.
  4. Managing complex or sensitive issues requiring significant interpretation and analysis.
  5. Developing and delivering project artifacts such as plans, reports, briefs, and documents.
  6. Providing strategic advice to Senior Executives and supporting the department's strategic direction.
  7. Promoting APS values, employment principles, and compliance with the Code of Conduct.
  8. Fostering a culture of safety, diversity, inclusiveness, positive attendance, and high performance.
Additional Information

This role may be performed from various locations listed in the Job Description. The merit pool from this selection process, valid for 18 months, may be used to fill similar future vacancies within the branch.

Candidate Requirements

The successful applicant should have:

  • Extensive experience in a regulatory environment working with complex legislation such as the Biosecurity Act 2015, Imported Food Control Act 1992, and Export Control Act 2020.
  • In-depth knowledge of legislative, financial, and administrative frameworks and government decision-making processes.
  • Significant exposure to business analysis, administrative design, and process improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated change management experience, including establishing clear plans and timeframes for agile project implementation.

Flexible employment arrangements are available with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
