About the role

REA Group seeks a Legal Counsel to join its award winning in-house legal team. This is a broad role with a diverse set of responsibilities, reflecting a company that is growing, innovating and embarking on market leading projects and partnerships. The legal team plays an integral role in supporting REA’s multi-national business helping to create products that consumers love and value.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel – Financial Services, this role sits within REA's high growth Financial Services business which includes Mortgage Choice and Campaign Agent. Your work will incorporate strategic legal advice in relation to general contracts, data, financial services regulation and competition & consumer law including the Franchising Code.

You will also work on specific projects and guide the business to problem solve in a way that strikes an appropriate balance between achieving commercial objectives and sensibly managing legal risk. This could include advising on M&A activity relevant to the Financial Services business, drafting and interpreting contracts with offshore business partners, and advising the Product Team on financial experiences on mortgagechoice.com.au & realestate.com.au.

About you

The successful candidate will be at/near Senior Associate level in a highly regarded law firm or at an equivalent level in-house. Strong drafting and analytical skills are essential. A team player who is self-assured and motivated, a confident communicator with a practical, common sense approach to problem solving will thrive in this environment. You have the ability to provide commercially focused legal support, particularly in the area of financial services. Areas of expertise will ideally include consumer credit, Franchise Code, and AML/CTF. Expertise in privacy, spam, and competition & consumer law will be viewed favorably.
