Job description

Job Title: Project Manager

Are you a Project Engineer looking to advance into Project Management? We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to take on the role of Project Manager, overseeing Council’s capital works and infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Team Leader of Project Delivery, you will lead the complete lifecycle of various projects, including civil works, buildings, open space developments, and special projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to high standards of quality and safety. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth and vibrancy of our city.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage and deliver Council’s annual capital and maintenance programs across civil, open space, and building infrastructure.
  2. Develop project scopes, procurement strategies, and detailed design plans aligned with Council objectives and asset management plans.
  3. Engage, manage, and monitor consultants and contractors to ensure project compliance with contractual, legislative, and quality standards.
  4. Prepare and oversee project budgets, purchase orders, and invoices, ensuring financial accountability and timely asset capitalization.
  5. Provide technical advice and assessments for development applications, traffic management, signage, and reinstatement work.
  6. Liaise with stakeholders including elected members, residents, developers, government agencies, and internal teams to facilitate effective project delivery and community benefits.
  7. Maintain accurate records in accordance with Council policies and contribute to continuous improvement in project delivery and customer service.
  8. Promote workplace health and safety and ensure all activities comply with WHS standards.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in delivering capital works or civil infrastructure projects, preferably within local government or similar settings.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, procurement, contract administration, and financial oversight.
  • Experience working with consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Familiarity with Australian Standards, relevant legislation, and local government planning and asset management frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project) is highly regarded.
