About Us

headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Bega and Cooma work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.

Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Bega and Cooma. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.

headspace Cooma is an outpost of headspace Bega. We operate 3 days per week from the Cooma hub and also provide outreach to Jindabyne and local schools as needed.

About The Position

The Mental Health Clinician will work collaboratively with a young person and their family to identify their support needs, goals and develop collaborative care plans. This role will provide high quality psycho-social assessment and evidence-based, focused psychological interventions to young people aged 12 to 25 referred to headspace Bega and Cooma.

This position requires working closely with the other members of the headspace Bega and Cooma teams and external service providers to maximise care outcomes for young people referred to headspace, along with fostering a culture of youth friendly, socially, and culturally inclusive service experience for young people. This opportunity will be based at headspace Cooma, with some travel required to local schools.

Part-time hours are available (2-3 days per week), fixed-term to 30 June 2026. Hours and days are negotiable.

We Are Looking For Someone With

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Provisional Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, or Occupational Therapist (accredited with OTA as meeting the Australian Competency Standards in mental health) or qualifications in social work and has (or eligibility/ willing to work towards) accreditation with the AASW as a Mental Health Social Worker
  • Experience in assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders, provision of Cognitive- Behaviour Therapy and other evidence-based focused psychological strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key issues in relation to the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people, and their family and friends.
