Job summary

Glencore Coal is seeking a Drill and Blast Engineer to join the Technical Services team at Rolleston Open Cut in Central Queensland. The role focuses on developing drill patterns, loading designs and blast tie-ins to optimise blasting performance and safety on site.

You will collaborate with Survey, Operations and Planning Engineers, applying Vulcan and BlastLogic to improve short- and long-term mining plans while driving continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in a Drill and Blast Engineering or similar mining engineering role.
• Proficiency in Vulcan and BlastLogic software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
• The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop drill patterns, loading designs and blast tie-in designs.
• Design and optimise blasts, incorporating learnings from previous performance while ensuring compliance with site standards, procedures and the SHMS.
• Liaise with Survey and Operations to ensure drill preparation standards are upheld, documentation and approvals are completed prior to issuing drill patterns.
• Work with Planning Engineers to optimise mine plans and support the delivery of short, medium and long-term planning outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and blast optimisation trials.
• Coach and mentor Mining Engineers, fostering technical capability within the team.

Rolleston Open Cut is a 16Mtpa thermal coal mine located in the southern Bowen Basin in Central Queensland. With a long life of mine and low operating costs, the mine has a bright outlook. About the Role
