About The Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and reliable Disability Support Worker to support an 18-year-old non-binary participant with Community Access in North Bondi.

The participant enjoys creative writing, poetry, reading, games, Scrabble, baking, swimming, and dogs. They value consistency, routine, and predictable support, so we are looking for someone who can build a trusting relationship while respecting their individual pace, preferences, identity, and autonomy.

The participant lives with schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), OCD, and BPD. Experience supporting people with psychosocial disability, autism, and complex mental health needs is highly regarded.

Location: North Bondi, NSW 2026

Schedule: To be arranged with the participant and family

Proposed Commencement: ASAP

Work Type: Casual Employment or Independent Contractor

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker who is committed to providing safe, respectful, person-centred support.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be
  • Open to all genders – there is no specific gender preference for this role.
  • LGBTQIA+ aware and affirming, with a respectful understanding of gender diversity and non-binary identities.
  • Patient, calm, empathetic, and respectful.
  • Comfortable supporting a young non-binary participant.
  • Able to provide consistent, predictable, and structured support.
  • Comfortable around dogs.
  • Experienced in, or willing to work within, psychosocial disability and complex mental health support.
  • Experienced with or knowledgeable about autism and positive behaviour support.
  • A non-smoker preferred.
  • Able to follow established support plans, risk-management strategies, and safety procedures.
Important

This is a high-support role. The participant has a history of self-harm behaviours. Applicants must be comfortable following established support strategies, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, recognising potential risks, and escalating concerns in accordance with the participant's support and safety plans.

Responsibilities Of The Role
  • Support the participant to access the community and engage in meaningful activities based on their interests and goals.
  • Build a strong, trusting, and respectful relationship while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Encourage participation in activities such as reading, writing, games, baking, swimming, and other preferred community activities.
  • Provide consistent and predictable support that respects the participant's need for routine.
  • Use a person-centred, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming approach.
  • Follow established behaviour support, risk-management, and safety strategies.
  • Support emotional regulation and independence while respecting the participant's autonomy and choices.
  • Recognise and appropriately respond to changes in presentation, behaviour, or wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate progress notes and complete required documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with the participant, family, Support Coordinator, and Chosen Family team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the participant's dignity, privacy, rights, and independence.

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Relevant disability support or community services experience
  • Strong understanding of person-centred support
  • LGBTQIA+ awareness and an inclusive approach
  • Ability to work safely and confidently within established support and risk-management plans

A valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle are highly desirable for community access and may be required depending on the activities and support arrangements agreed with the participant and family.
