Current Opportunity – Oak Park, VIC 3046

We are currently seeking a reliable, engaging and proactive Disability Support Worker to provide 1:1 support to a participant in Oak Park, Victoria 3046.

A strong interest in mechanics, cars or automotive work would be highly regarded for this particular role.

The participant previously worked as a mechanic, and mechanics and automotive interests remain an important part of his identity and life experience. We would therefore particularly like to hear from support workers who genuinely enjoy cars, engines, mechanical work, automotive projects or similar hands‑on interests.

You don't need to be a qualified mechanic. What matters is being able to connect with the participant through a genuine shared interest and use this to help build rapport, conversation and meaningful engagement.

The position is offered on a contractual (sole trader/ABN) basis providing flexibility while being supported by an established, professional and nurse‑led organisation.

The Role:

Depending on the participant's individual needs and goals, supports may include:

• 1:1 assistance with daily living.
• Community access and social participation.
• Transport to appointments, shopping and activities.
• Supporting the participant to pursue his interests and hobbies.
• Automotive or mechanics‑related outings and activities.
• Visiting car shows, automotive stores, workshops or other activities of interest where appropriate.
• Supporting meaningful conversations and social engagement.
• Encouraging independence, choice and decision‑making.
• Supporting the participant to remain connected with his local community.
• Personal care where required.
• Following individual support and care plans.
• Maintaining accurate support documentation and progress notes.

A major focus of this role is developing a consistent and respectful working relationship with the participant.

About You:

The right person will be:

• Genuinely interested in mechanics, cars, engines or automotive activities.
• Friendly, approachable and easy to talk to.
• Able to build natural and genuine rapport.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Patient, respectful and participant‑focused.
• Confident supporting community access and activities.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Able to use initiative while respecting the participant's choices and preferences.
• Encouraging of independence rather than doing everything for the participant.
• Interested in building a consistent, longer‑term support relationship.

Mechanics or automotive knowledge is a major advantage, whether through previous employment, a trade, personal projects, motorsport, car restoration or simply a genuine interest in cars and how things work.

What You'll Need:

Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain where applicable:

• Certificate III in Individual Support or an equivalent/relevant qualification.
• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
• Current National Police Check.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Current CPR certification.s-l>
• Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module – Quality, Safety and You.
• Australian working rights.
• Current driver's licence.
• Reliable and appropriately insured vehicle.
• Australian Business Number (ABN) or willingness to obtain one.
• A professional, reliable and participant‑focused approach.
