Job summary

Oyster Care Pty is seeking a Disability Support Worker to assist Participants with physical disabilities and/or mental illness in their own homes and within the community in Sydney, NSW. You will help participants achieve personal goals, maintain dignity and promote independence through compassionate, person-centred support.

The role involves evening and weekend shifts, travel around Sydney, and collaboration with family members.

Qualifications

• Mental Health experience is highly favourable but not required.
• Excellent work ethic, strong oral communication skills and written skills.
• Empathetic and person-centered approach when supporting Participants in their own home and/or out in the community.
• Background in Support Work / Nursing and/or experience supporting a variety of NDIS participants with mental illness, intellectual and physical disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day care for Participants with physical disabilities and/or mental illness.
• Manage and implement complex mental health needs and behavioral challenges.
• Accurately record data and complete forms.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques for heightened behaviours.
• Collaborate with other household members as needed.

Job description

The Role:

As a Disability Support Worker with Oyster Care, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day care of our Participants with physical disabilities and/or mental illness. Oyster Care Support Workers enable our participants to reach their full potential by helping them achieve their individual goals.

Monday to Saturday:

• Female support workers needed from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Ideal candidates should be adept at managing and implementing:

• Complex mental health needs
• Behavioural challenges
• Accurate data recording and form completion
• De-escalation techniques for heightened behaviours

The roster will be rotating, including some weekend work. It's important that the selected support workers can also collaborate effectively with another family member in the household. This demanding role offers the benefit of stable hours and includes weekend shifts.

Skills and Requirements:

• Mental Health experience is highly favourable but not required.

• Have an empathetic and person-centered approach when supporting our Participants in their own home and/or out in the community. Treat them how you would treat your own family member.
• Having a background in Support Work / Nursing and/or experience supporting a variety of NDIS participants with mental illness, intellectual and physical disabilities.

Essential Criteria:

• Must be willing to travel around Sydney.
• Must be vaccinated for COVID-19.
• Must be willing to provide personal care.
• Must own an insured vehicle and be willing to utilize said vehicle in supporting participants.
• Must have some form of experience in Disability, Mental Health, or Aged Care.
