Job summary

Bowen State High School is seeking a Head of Special Education Services to lead a Secondary School Special Education Program of about 680 students. The role focuses on inclusion, curriculum development and strong coordination of instruction for diverse learners.

You will provide guidance to teachers, support strong case management and partner with families and external services to deliver targeted interventions and inclusive outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience in curriculum, teaching and learning for inclusion.
• Ability to manage a program of instruction and create a positive school environment for diverse learners.
• Evidence of experience in effective case management and coordinating supports.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support through the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program, including guidance to classroom teachers supporting students with disability.
• Provide advice to school leadership, teachers and staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments, while coordinating intensive targeted teaching and intervention for students requiring additional support.
• Coordinate and support case management for students requiring substantial or extensive adjustments, including assisting staff to access departmental and external specialist services, professional development and relevant supports.
• Contribute to school decision-making, professional development, planning and school-wide data systems, including monitoring students with disability and coordinating the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability.
• Build and maintain partnerships with parents, government agencies and community groups, while managing human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources to achieve identified goals.
