  • Fixed, Full-Time opportunity up to five years.
  • SES Grade 1: $225,000 - $290,600 Total Renumeration Package.

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Director to provide a critical role within the North West Metropolitan Area.

About the Business Unit

Justice Services is a division within the Corrections and Justice Services Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Justice Services operates under a four Area model, and it is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's Community Correctional Services (CCS) in more than 35 locations across Victoria. Justice Services ensures that offenders are safely managed and supervised on orders issued by the courts and the Adult Parole Board, including Community Correction Orders, Parole Orders and Post Supervision Orders. In addition to CCS related functions, Justice Services provides oversight of regional departmental operations and works collaboratively with communities and program areas, such as Youth Justice (YJ), Aboriginal Justice and the Sheriffs Office Victoria to deliver critical justice services at the local level.

The NWMA comprises the North, North East, North West and Western Metropolitan Regions, 14 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and provides services across 8 Justice Service Centres and the Neighbourhood Justice Service Centre in Collingwood.

The NWMA delivers a range of services including CCS, Sheriffs Operations, YJ, and Community Services which involves Crime Prevention, Employment Pathways and is accountable for the performance of these community-based services. Engagement and collaboration with other government departments is a key function.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director, NWMA leads the delivery of effective YJ, Sheriffs Operations and Community Services in the NWMA, providing executive leadership in responding to community needs, management of risk and delivery of social and human services reforms.

The Director is a highly visible executive leader representing the department on external regional projects and plays a vital role in priority projects in disadvantaged areas, service integration and community engagement, regional planning and local responses to regional issues.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide leadership to the YJ, Sheriff and Community Services General Managers in operating modern youth justice services, sheriff's operations and community services.
  • Engage with key community groups and stakeholders.
  • Identify and drive operational efficiencies across YJ, Sheriffs Operations and Community Services with central DJCS partners.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the key issues impacting the management and delivery of public services and proven experience in the provision of clear high-level advice on complex issues.
  • Proven experience in senior management and corporate leadership in matters of operational management, service planning, delivery and performance monitoring, resource management, quality management practices and corporate governance.
  • Previous experience in compliance with statutory requirements, establishing corporate priorities and managing a large and complex multi-service organisation
  • Highly developed relationship building and stakeholder management skills with a track record in building successful partnerships.
  • Sound strategic thinking skills combined with an understanding of how to work effectively across government.

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification or equivalent experience is desirable.
