Job description
Director, Global Non-Executive Director Program, Investments

AustralianSuper is a leader in direct investment in major unlisted operating businesses, both domestically and globally. This trend will continue to evolve as AustralianSuper increases its allocation to private markets and maintains this relative exposure as the Fund grows.

The ability to appoint Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) & Strategic Advisors (SAs) that have the right skills and experience for these businesses is a key value driver for unlisted investments.

Your New Role

The goal of the global NED & SA Program is to create a diverse network of high calibre candidates and deliver a program that drives value for members, the AustralianSuper Investment teams and participating NEDs, SAs and Experts.

The Director, Global NED & SA Program will play an important role in contributing to the strategic direction of the global NED Program. The role includes responsibility for executing the Australia NED & SA network strategy including the recruitment, induction and ongoing engagement and development activities for both internal and external nominees in the market.

The primary responsibility is to support the strategy and oversee the development and implementation of a NED & SA Program.

Specifically:

Program strategy - Collaborate with the Principal, Global NED Program to establish the overall program strategy and roadmap, identifying key deliverables and success measures for approval by Investments senior leadership and, where applicable, the PCC;

Program delivery - Develop and execute strategies and plans within the Australian market to (a) build the NED & SA network; (b) attract and recruit qualified NEDs & SAs; (c) implement a program of events and resources intended to enhance performance and the profile of the Fund, Investment team, and the program; and (d) construct frameworks, policies, and processes to effectively carry out and manage the NED & SA network and program;

Program ambassador - Serve as a representative of the program for internal and external stakeholders, including existing and prospective NEDs & SAs. Promote the Fund and the program to targeted audiences externally to assist in attracting and retaining qualified NEDs & SAs;

Policies and processes - Assist in the development and continuous improvement of relevant policies and procedures to facilitate the efficient operation of the NED program;

Value-add activities - Work with the program team to design strategies and frameworks to derive additional benefit from the network and program, including initiatives such as origination, advisory, and mentoring programs;

Relationships - Establish and maintain relationships with NEDs, internal stakeholders, and vendors to support the objectives of the NED program. Build effective working relationships with private markets Investment teams and other groups across the Fund (including ESG, Fund Services, SRCA) to ensure the Program's alignment with its goals and integration within the organisation. These activities require strong influencing abilities across various senior stakeholders both within and outside the Fund.

What You'll Need

  • Senior level experience in any of Legal/Advisory, Investor Relations, Board/Executive Search or Learning & Development, ideally with extended exposure to Investment Cycles and Asset Management;
  • Facilitation and influencing skills to ensure key strategies within Program are delivered;
  • Ability to build business cases, develop and manage budgets and report outcomes;
  • Strong understanding of business and commercial principles;
  • Proven ability to manage multifaceted initiatives and multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; with ability to clearly explain complex concepts and influence at all levels of the organisation;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and root cause identification skills;
  • Team player, working collaboratively with and through others;
  • Flexible and able to adapt to opportunities and circumstances that rapidly expanding organisations present;
  • Decisive and proactive; able to recognize when to act and when to analyze;
  • Passionate about your career and delivering high quality through your work;
  • Superior tertiary qualifications;
  • Legal or advisory training would be an advantage.

This is a permanent role based in Melbourne or Sydney.
