Job summary

ACT Government Education Directorate is seeking a Director Gender Equality in Schools for a full-time temporary role in Canberra. The position leads a team and shapes policy, learning and programs to advance gender equality and inclusion across ACT public schools.

The role requires experience in safeguarding respectful relationships and consent education, and collaboration with community organisations. Closes 20 October 2026; term from January 2027 with possible extension.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in education or health related fields is preferred.
• Experience in the primary prevention of gender-based violence and a deep understanding of the evidence base underpinning Respectful Relationships Education will be considered highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for developing and implementing the ACT Education Directorate’s approach to gender equality and inclusion in ACT public schools.
• Develop policy, professional learning, strategies, programs and supports to increase gender equality and inclusion capability of school staff.
• Work with schools to ensure respectful relationships, sexuality and consent education meets student needs and engage community partners to reflect student experiences.
