The Opportunity

The Director, Development is a senior leadership position responsible for leading VicGrid's development function and providing strategic direction for the planning, development and delivery readiness of major energy infrastructure programs. The role drives a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to project development, ensuring high-quality technical, commercial and strategic outcomes that support government objectives and investment decisions.

As a key member of the Portfolio Strategy & Development leadership team, the Director provides authoritative advice to executives, government stakeholders and industry partners, builds organisational capability, and is accountable for delivering complex development activities within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What you will deliver

• Lead the project development team to develop major energy infrastructure business cases, to time, cost and quality requirements.
• Contribute to driving project development frameworks to ensure projects are developed effectively, meet investment requirements, comply with statutory requirements, and are to the satisfaction of the key stakeholders.
• Provide professional leadership of consultant and/or works contracts, monitoring progress and overseeing effective management of advisor works program.
• Ensure endorsed project development works are carried out in accordance with quality, environmental, and safety management plans. Ensure that the management of safety is consistent with VicGrid's systems.
• Proactively identify and promptly respond to issues through exercising excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, to pre-empt and mitigate risks.
• Build strong relationships, competently collaborate and negotiate with stakeholders, including project team members, contractors, consultants and multiple government authorities, to ensure development work is prioritised and managed to appropriate investment standards, government requirements and community needs.

What you will bring

• Extensive experience in the development and management of energy infrastructure projects, including complex scoping, feasibility assessment, business case development, multiple stakeholder interfaces and significant risk management.
• Demonstrated achievement in the development of projects to meet investment management standards, within the scheduled timeframe and budget, and optimising safety, environmental impacts, reliability, operational characteristics and maintainability.
• Extensive experience with strategic energy issues, including relevant technical modelling and financial/economic approaches.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
