Job description

Oxford University Press (OUP) is one of the world's largest and most respected academic publishers, operating as a department of the University of Oxford. Its mission is to further the University's objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide. In Australia and New Zealand, OUP has a strong presence in the education market, developing digital products and platforms for teachers, students, and schools.

The role

This is a newly created position within OUP's growing Digital Product team in Australia and New Zealand, sitting within the Digital Product Management department. Reporting to the Head of Digital Product, the Digital Product Lead takes full ownership of product vision, strategy, roadmap, delivery, and performance across OUP's digital products. The role exists to support the next stage of OUP's digital strategy as the organisation continues to evolve its digital experiences for teachers, students, and schools. You would work collaboratively with local and global teams, senior stakeholders, and third-party suppliers.

What you would do

You would develop and manage product strategy, value proposition, roadmap, and priorities, grounding decisions in customer needs, market insight, and business objectives. You would manage the product backlog, define requirements and acceptance criteria, prioritise work, and coordinate delivery across the full product lifecycle. Engaging regularly with customers, you would plan and conduct research, and use feedback and behavioural or usage data to understand needs and inform product decisions. You would maintain awareness of customer buying behaviour, competitors, channels to market, and commercial performance, applying this knowledge to product planning and decision-making. You would identify and assess opportunities to improve products, challenge existing approaches, and use prototypes, pilots, and testing to validate ideas. You would apply sufficient technical knowledge to work effectively with technology teams and suppliers, understand feasibility and trade-offs, and support informed product decisions. You would maintain knowledge of AI and emerging technologies and identify appropriate opportunities to apply them safely and responsibly. You would define measures of success and monitor customer, product, operational, and commercial performance, using evidence to identify improvements and support prioritisation and investment decisions. You would communicate product direction, priorities, value, and progress clearly to different audiences, and work collaboratively across local and global teams, senior stakeholders, and third-party suppliers. You would take responsibility for product outcomes, identify and communicate risks, follow through on agreed actions, and adapt ways of working as customer and business needs change.

What they are looking for

You would need proven experience managing digital products throughout their lifecycle, covering strategy, discovery, roadmaps, prioritisation, delivery, launch, and continuous improvement. Experience using research, feedback, and behavioural or usage data to understand customer needs and inform product decisions is essential. You would need the ability to evaluate customer value, business benefit, cost, risk, competitors, buying behaviour, and routes to market. Experience applying evidence, experimentation, and learning to improve digital products or ways of working is required, as is confidence using digital technologies, AI, and automation, with an understanding of their opportunities, limitations, and responsible application. You would need the ability to communicate product direction, technical concepts, options, and value clearly to varied audiences, with strong collaboration and influencing skills across technical and non-technical teams. Demonstrated ownership of outcomes, sound judgement, adaptability, and commitment to continuous learning are expected. Strong planning and project management capability is required, including translating needs into requirements, coordinating dependencies, managing risks, budgets, and timelines, and maintaining clear accountability. It would be desirable to have an understanding of accessibility, privacy, security, and data governance as they apply to digital products. Knowledge of the Australia and New Zealand education market and digital learning environments would be an advantage, as would experience working with Agile methods and tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Working arrangements

The role is based in Docklands, VIC, Australia (postcode 3008), in contemporary offices close to Southern Cross Station. The working arrangement is hybrid, with two work-from-home days per week and rostered Friday afternoons off on a fortnightly basis.

Pay and benefits

Salary is dependent on skills and experience. Additional benefits include a highly flexible working environment, access to varied learning and development opportunities, the opportunity to support the Skyline Education Foundation through a Workplace Giving Program, and a comprehensive wellbeing program including an Employee Assistance Program available to you and your family. Enterprise-level benefits include Long Service Leave at five years, two days of paid Volunteering Leave per year, Study Leave per year, and other entitlements.
