Job summary

Star Drilling is seeking a hands-on Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team at the Thomastown Depot. You will service, diagnose and repair diesel vehicles, drill rigs and heavy plant, keeping equipment safe and productive.

This role requires a recognised trade qualification and hands-on experience with hydraulic systems. You will work in a modern workshop environment, with a supportive team and opportunities to develop specialist skills in drilling equipment.

Qualifications

• Requires a recognised trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulic equipment and hydraulic systems is essential.
• Experience servicing and repairing diesel vehicles, heavy vehicles, plant or industrial equipment.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities with attention to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Perform servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Diagnose issues and test parts to ensure reliability.
• Provide onsite technical support for medium/heavy rigid trucks, including diagnostics, repair and maintenance.
• Respond to breakdowns and minimise equipment downtime.
• Carry out general fabrication duties and maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure product integrity and adhere to safety protocols.

Job description

Join our maintenance team and work on specialist drilling equipment

Star Drilling is looking for an experienced and hands-on Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team at our Thomastown Depot.

This is a practical, workshop-based role working across our fleet of drilling rigs, heavy vehicles, plant and equipment. You will be responsible for servicing, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs, fabricating, helping ensure our equipment remains safe, reliable and ready for operation.

Importantly, you must have a mechanical trade qualification and demonstrated hands-on experience working with hydraulic equipment and systems.

Responsibilities:

Perform servicing repairs and preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles, plant and equipment.

Diagnose issues and test parts.

Provide onsite technical support on medium rigid and heavy rigid trucks,
including diagnostics, repair and maintenance.

Responding to breakdowns and helping minimise equipment downtime

Carry out general fabrication duties.

Maintain accurate records of all repairs and maintenance tasks.

Conduct quality checks to maintain product integrity.

Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace.

What we're looking for

To be considered for this role, you must have:

A recognised trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent

Demonstrated hands-on experience working on hydraulic equipment and hydraulic systems

Experience servicing and repairing diesel vehicles, heavy vehicles, plant or industrial equipment

Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills

A strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship

Current HR or MR licence

Highly regarded

We'd particularly like to hear from you if you also have:

Mechanical fitter/fitter experience or qualifications

Experience working on drilling rigs or specialist drilling equipment

Experience within the drilling, mining, civil, construction or heavy equipment industries

Welding and fabrication skills

The role is likely to occasionally require:
