Job description

Do you want to work in an organisation where your input directly impacts the health of our oceans?

The Secretariat of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) is seeking a Developer with a focus on Software, DevOps and/or Databases to join our Data and Information Systems (DIS) team, based in Hobart.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Data and Information Systems (DIS) Manager, you will bring new skills and additional capacity into the DIS team. This is a flexible position — we would like to hear from people with a variety of backgrounds, including Software Development, DevOps and Database Development and Administration. You will play a versatile role within the team supporting systems development and operations across CCAMLR's technology environment. Whether that's building APIs and microservices in Go, developing responsive user interfaces in React, automating CI/CD pipelines, managing infrastructure, or administering and optimising Microsoft SQL Server databases. You'll also have opportunities to contribute to the strategic direction of projects and to support continuous improvement and digital transformation across the Secretariat.

To be successful, you will have:
  • Possession of, or substantial progress towards, a relevant tertiary qualification (equivalent relevant experience will also be considered)
  • A minimum of two years' experience in similar roles
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well with others at all levels in a multi-cultural, multi-skilled environment
  • A commitment to supporting the Secretariat's broader mission and to promoting equal opportunity in the workplace
Desirable:
  • Skills and/or experience in one or more areas including software development, DevOps, database development or database administration.
  • Technical skills or experience in some of the following
    • Developing APIs, web applications and microservices
    • Developing and maintaining DevOps pipelines, including CI/CD processes and automated testing
    • Microsoft SQL Server administration, relational data modelling and query development
    • Coding with Go, React, and/or SQL
  • Experience using AI, GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and on-premise, cloud and containerised infrastructure
  • Understanding of cyber security and AI best practices
  • Experience working within software development teams and/or related project management experience
Why Choose CCAMLR?
  • Meaningful work: Make a real difference by contributing to the conservation of Antarctic marine life
  • Generous leave: 6 weeks of annual leave
  • Supportive environment: Be part of a dedicated and passionate team
  • Annual salary starting at $86,552 + super and benefits

Applicants must have full and current working rights in Australia.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Police check and medical clearance.
