Job summary

SYNERGY CONSTRUCT AUSTRALIA PTY LTD is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead design on major commercial projects from pre-contract through to construction. You will align design development with the brief, cost plan, program and construction requirements.

You will drive design across multi-disciplinary teams, chair design meetings and manage risks, budgets and schedules to deliver buildable outcomes. This role requires a proactive leader with strong communication and stakeholder skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field.
• 10+ years’ experience in commercial construction, preferably in design management.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Self-sufficient, commercially aware with ability to manage competing priorities.
• Commitment to teamwork with a “one team” approach.
• Knowledge of NCC, Australian Standards and approval processes.
• Working knowledge of Aconex, Bluebeam and BIM coordination environments.

Job description

Continued growth across our project portfolio has created an opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to lead design on major projects from pre-contract through design development and construction. This is a commercially focused, technically interesting role, bringing together clients, architects, consultants and SYNERGY CONSTRUCT's delivery teams to turn design complexity into practical, buildable outcomes.

Your contribution

In this role, you'll lead design management on commercial projects, keeping design development aligned with the brief, cost plan, program and construction requirements.

You will:

• Review design packages early to identify risks, gaps and opportunities.
• Lead design from pre-contract and ECI through to construction.
• Manage consultants against scope, program, fees and quality.
• Prepare design budgets, programs and management plans.
• Coordinate design with estimating, procurement and site teams.
• Chair design meetings and drive timely resolution of actions.
• Facilitate constructability, value-management and risk reviews.
• Navigate NCC, statutory and project compliance requirements.
• Support tender and ECI design reviews.
• Support Safety in Design process and manage identified risks.
• Provide construction-phase design support, including RFIs and change management.

About you

You understand design well enough to challenge it, and construction well enough to deliver it successfully. You know how to create accountability across consultant teams and keep design information moving without losing sight of quality, program requirements or design intent.

Ideally you'll have:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field.
• 10+ years’ experience in commercial construction, preferably in design management.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Self-sufficient, commercially aware and comfortable managing competing priorities.
• A commitment to teamwork, valuing the "one team" approach.
• Sound working knowledge of D&C procurement, design risk, constructability and the interface between design and construction delivery.
• Thorough knowledge of the NCC, Australian Standards and statutory approval processes.
• Working knowledge of Aconex, Bluebeam and BIM coordination environments.
