Job description

Central Coast Steiner School is seeking an outstanding educational leader to join our vibrant, creative Steiner school environment asDeputy Principalin a full time capacity commencing in Term 1, 2027 (with the possibility of a Term 4, 2026 commencement).

This position provides an opportunity for an inspiring educator who is passionate about academic excellence, student wellbeing and values-based education to play a key leadership role within our flourishing school community. Working closely with the Principal, the successful applicant will help advance the School’s vision and strategic priorities while fostering a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

The role includes a0.3 teaching load, providing an opportunity to remain connected to the classroom, ideally within the secondary years and aligned with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.

Nestled within a natural bushland setting in Fountaindale on the beautiful Central Coast of NSW, Central Coast Steiner School is a thriving independent school that offers a unique educational pathway from Early Childhood to Year 12. Grounded in the principles of Steiner education and enriched by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12, the School fosters a deep love of learning, creativity and personal growth.

About the Role

The Deputy Principal will play a key role within the whole-school leadership, fostering a positive school culture, advancing student wellbeing and academic excellence, mentoring staff, and contributing to the strategic vision of the School. Working closely with the Principal, the Deputy Principal will be a visible and relational presence across the School, helping to translate the School’s vision and priorities into effective daily practice.

Areas of responsibility include strategic leadership, staff development, student wellbeing, curriculum oversight, compliance and accreditation.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • A deep understanding of, and commitment to, the philosophy and practices of Steiner education, preferably with formal Steiner qualifications
  • Proven experience in educational leadership
  • Experience working within an International Baccalaureate school, preferably with the Diploma Programme
  • The capacity to lead with integrity, courage, empathy and sound professional judgement
  • A genuine commitment to building and sustaining a thriving and inclusive school community
  • An ability to translate and implement the School’s strategic goals into meaningful action
  • The ability to uphold and articulate high expectations, values and educational ideals that foster a positive and healthy school culture
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills, including the ability to mentor and support colleagues in their professional growth and build leadership capacity in others
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and support high-quality teaching, learning and curriculum development
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, thoughtful and solutions-focused approach to challenges
  • A commitment to restorative practices and positive relationships with students
  • Contemporary knowledge of student wellbeing needs and a strong commitment to child safety, safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • A strong understanding of current educational practice and regulatory requirements, together with a demonstrated capacity to innovate and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed administrative and organisational abilities, accountability and attention to detail
  • Registered to teach in NSW through NESA (or equivalent recognised authority)
  • Relevant teaching and leadership experience
  • Permanent work rights in Australia with no restrictions
  • Steiner qualifications or commitment to further study in Steiner education
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check
