Job summary

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) invites applications for Deputy Editor, Canberra Parliament House. Join our Canberra bureau to lead timely, original journalism across digital, audio, video and broadcast platforms, reporting on federal politics at the heart of national affairs.

You will set the daily agenda, guide editorial referrals, ensure policy-compliant output, and use audience data to drive decisions while developing staff across the National newsroom team.

Responsibilities

• Commission and lead timely, accurate, impartial breaking news and daily stories across all platforms for national audiences.
• Set the daily news agenda, act as one of the primary editorial referral points for all CPH content.
• Ensure video and audio output meets ABC Editorial Policies and community expectations.
• Use audience data and analytics to guide editorial, commissioning and distribution decisions.
• Collaborate across ABC News to meet audience needs on all platforms.
• Support the Editor, Politics to use resources efficiently and meet budget requirements.
• Manage and develop Parliament House bureau staff through feedback and performance.
• Contribute to leadership of the National and International newsroom team.
• Drive innovative content creation and journalism for all audiences.
• Foster collaboration and open communication between digital and multiplatform teams.
• Produce stories relevant to diverse Australian audiences across culture, geography and socio-economic backgrounds.

The Role

Join the ABC's Canberra Parliament House bureau and play a key role in driving Australia's political coverage. You'll lead the delivery of timely, original and impactful journalism that informs and engages audiences across digital, audio, video and broadcast platforms. Working at the heart of the nation's political landscape, you'll help uncover the stories that matter most to Australians, ensuring our coverage is accurate, relevant and innovative.

• Outstanding knowledge of federal politics, national affairs, economics, and how government works.
• Proven track record leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver strategic outcomes.
• High-level editorial leadership, especially in video and audio content.
