Job summary

The Canberra Maxillofacial Centre in Phillip ACT is seeking a dedicated Dental Assistant for a permanent part-time role, one day per week. You will work closely with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and clinical team, assisting with a range of oral surgical and dental implant procedures.

Responsibilities include chairside assistance, preparing patients, setting up rooms and instruments, maintaining sterile fields, and giving postoperative instructions.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Dental Assistant or similar clinical support role.
• Familiarity with dental implants and implant workflows is advantageous.
• Excellent patient communication and infection control knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon during surgical and dental implant procedures.
• Prepare patients and set up rooms, instruments and equipment.
• Maintain sterile fields and assist with sterile technique.
• Chairside assistance during procedures under local anaesthesia.
• Provide postoperative instructions and follow-up calls as directed.

The Canberra Maxillofacial Centre - Phillip ACT

This is a permanent part-time position for one day per week with a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice in Canberra. You will work closely with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and clinical team, assisting with a range of oral surgical and dental implant procedures performed within the practice.

Key responsibilities

Assisting the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon during surgical procedures

Assisting with dental implant surgery and related procedures

Preparing patients for oral surgical procedures

Setting up surgical rooms, instruments and equipment

Maintaining sterile fields and assisting with sterile surgical technique

Chairside assisting during procedures performed under local anaesthesia

Supporting and reassuring patients before, during and after surgery

Providing postoperative instructions under the direction of the surgeon

Conducting postoperative telephone follow-up calls with patients

Cleaning, sterilising and preparing surgical instruments

About you

Has experience as a Dental Assistant

Has familiarity with dental implants, implant components and implant surgical workflows

Is confident working in a clinical or surgical environment

Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Is comfortable speaking with patients by telephone following surgery

Is calm and organised during surgical procedures

Has a strong understanding of infection control and sterilisation

Is compassionate and reassuring with anxious patients

Is reliable, punctual and attentive to detail

Works well within a small, close-knit team
