Qualifications

• Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent

What you'll be doing

As a Dental Assistant Grade 1, you'll play an essential role in helping clinicians deliver safe, efficient and compassionate dental care. Combining hands‑on clinical support with patient communication and essential administrative tasks, you'll help ensure each patient receives a positive and professional experience.

Prepare dental instruments, equipment and materials, assist clinicians during procedures, maintain moisture control and support patient comfort and wellbeing.

Help patients understand their oral healthcare and post‑operative instructions, communicating respectfully with patients, carers and the wider clinical team.

Follow NSW Health policies for personal protective equipment, waste management, instrument reprocessing, sterilisation and workplace safety.

Assist with patient preparation for dental radiography, maintain radiographic equipment, process sensors and accurately manage patient information using relevant digital systems.

Assist with appointment scheduling, patient administration and OHFFSS voucher processing, participate in training and team meetings, and work flexibly across WSLHD Oral Health clinics as required.

Qualification: Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent/current enrolment in the course

Selection Criteria

Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent or experience and willingness to undertake and successfully

Recent experience as a Dental Assistant.

Demonstrated ability to perform effective infection control procedures in all aspects of Dental Assisting.

Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in dental charting with good computer skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to liaise with a wide range of individuals.

Demonstrated understanding of work health safety requirements

Excellent organisational, time‑management and problem‑solving skills.
