KBR, Inc. in Melbourne is seeking a Systems Engineer to sustain, improve and evolve complex voice and data communication systems.

You will apply systems engineering to risk management, safety assurance, requirements analysis and lifecycle support, delivering reliable, effective networked technologies across defence projects. The role offers autonomy, stakeholder engagement and the chance to influence critical engineering outcomes in a permanent full-time position based in Melbourne.

Qualifications

• Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering (Systems Engineering, Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Mechatronics or related) from an Australian institution.
• At least 3 years’ experience delivering engineering outcomes in a defence environment.
• Good knowledge of network/communication engineering architecture.
• Experience in Defence Safety Engineering practices, including LMSM compliance, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Safety Case development.
• Experience in supporting electronic systems and OEM software solutions.
• Knowledge of electronics, networking technologies, and vendor‑specific software platforms.
• Experience with ASDEFCON deliverables.
• Experience managing multiple stakeholders across Defence, Industry, and Capability Management organisations.

Responsibilities

• Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of systems engineering under limited direction.
• Accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations.
• Research, apply and contribute to the development of technical engineering reports, briefs, presentations and documentation for review.
• Apply technical engineering knowledge and experience, understand priorities to research and define issues and implement corrective actions.
• Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders via reports, written correspondence, calculations, discussions and presentations.
• Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing and provide recommendations for consideration.
• Analyse that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks and provide recommendations for consideration.
• Ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into systems engineering activities and tasks.
