Job summary

Shield Recruitment is seeking an experienced Cyber Security GRC Consultant / Assessment & Authorisation Specialist to join our Canberra team. This full-time role supports Defence and Government organisations in establishing robust governance, risk and compliance frameworks across cyber security environments.

Responsibilities include risk assessments, security authorisation, reports, and stakeholder advisory to strengthen cybersecurity maturity.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in IT, cybersecurity or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in cybersecurity governance, risk management or compliance roles.
• Expertise in security assessment methodologies and frameworks (NIST, ISO/IEC 27001 or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of Australian regulatory requirements for cybersecurity.
• Proven experience with security audits and vulnerability assessments.
• Ability to translate technical findings into business-focused recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments and vulnerability evaluations to identify gaps in security posture and compliance.
• Develop and implement security authorisation frameworks aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare assessment reports with findings, recommendations and remediation strategies.
• Advise on governance, policies and procedures to strengthen cybersecurity maturity.
• Lead security control assessments and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
• Support authorisation and accreditation processes ensuring compliance with standards.
• Stay updated on evolving cybersecurity threats, regulatory changes and best practices.
• Liaise with stakeholders from technical teams to senior management to communicate risk findings.
• Develop security compliance roadmaps and implementation plans tailored to client requirements.
• Contribute to development of templates, frameworks and tools to enhance service delivery.
