Shield Recruitment is seeking an experienced Cyber Security GRC Consultant / Assessment & Authorisation Specialist to join our growing team in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in helping Defence and Government organisations establish and maintain robust governance, risk and compliance frameworks across their cyber security environments. Previous Defence experience is essential.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct detailed cybersecurity risk assessments and vulnerability evaluations to identify gaps in security posture and compliance
- Develop and implement security authorisation frameworks aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Prepare comprehensive assessment reports documenting findings, recommendations, and remediation strategies
- Advise clients on governance structures, policies, and procedures to strengthen their cybersecurity maturity
- Lead security control assessments and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement
- Support clients through the authorisation and accreditation process, ensuring compliance with relevant standards
- Maintain knowledge of evolving cybersecurity threats, regulatory changes, and industry best practices
- Liaise with stakeholders at all levels, from technical teams to senior management, to communicate risk and compliance findings
- Develop security compliance roadmaps and implementation plans tailored to client requirements
- Contribute to the development of templates, frameworks, and tools to enhance service delivery
What we’re looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in cybersecurity governance, risk management, or compliance roles
- Demonstrated expertise in security assessment methodologies and frameworks such as NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, or equivalent standards
- Strong understanding of Australian regulatory requirements and compliance obligations relevant to cybersecurity
- Proven experience conducting security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate technical findings into business-focused recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCSK, CISM, or GIAC certifications are highly desirable
- Experience with authorisation and accreditation processes, particularly within the Australian Government context, is advantageous
