Job summary

Mayport Consulting in Canberra and Melbourne is recruiting experienced commercial practitioners for Defence and Australian Government work. This hands-on consulting role offers sound judgement, clear written advice and practical commercial discipline in complex client environments.

You will administer contracts, monitor performance, manage variations and provide procurement and contract-management support. Flexible balance of office, client-site and hybrid work per assignment.

Qualifications

• Experience in Commonwealth Government or Defence commercial, procurement, contracting or contract-management work.
• Hands-on experience managing contracts after execution, including performance, obligations, supplier engagement, variations, claims, risk and governance.
• Strong written skills for commercial advice, tender material, evaluations, approvals and reports.
• Sound commercial judgement and confidence working with client, supplier and internal stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of ASDEFCON and Commonwealth or Defence procurement-policy and governance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Administer contracts and monitor performance against obligations, deliverables, milestones and agreed outcomes.
• Manage variations, change proposals, claims, risks, issues, commercial records and financial or commercial status.
• Engage constructively with suppliers and stakeholders, and support governance, contract and performance meetings.
• Provide practical commercial advice on contracting options, liability and risk allocation, and delivery decisions.
• Develop procurement strategies and prepare tender, evaluation and other decision-ready documentation.
• Support tendering and evaluation activity, including clear commercial analysis and recommendations.
• Use Power BI or comparable tools to analyse contract data and produce clear performance reporting and insight.
• Apply ASDEFCON and relevant Commonwealth and Defence procurement policy in a practical, defensible way.
