Job summary

Swordfish Computing, an Australian defence science and technology company, seeks a Principal AI Engineer to lead AI/ML research and engineering and mentor teams across Adelaide and beyond.

You will bridge research and practical system delivery, shaping architectures, evaluating approaches, and collaborating with Defence, DSTG, academia and industry to deliver trusted, high-assurance AI-enabled capabilities.

Qualifications

• Strong AI/ML research and engineering capability.
• Excellent software engineering discipline and testing practices.
• Ability to lead engineers and researchers and grow talent.
• Experience applying AI beyond narrow sub-specialisations.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical leadership across AI research and engineering projects.
• Shape architectures and experimentation strategies for difficult problems.
• Collaborate with Defence, DSTG, academia and industry to deliver trusted AI capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and researchers and strengthen technical standards.
