Job summary

BDO is seeking a Data Steward to support data governance initiatives and improve data quality across the organisation. You will partner with business and technology stakeholders to gather requirements, maintain governance artefacts, and promote best practices within the Data Management Framework.

The role requires collaboration across teams to classify data, resolve data quality issues, and support IT and Data Strategy initiatives, including Purview implementation.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years' experience in data governance or data management.
  • Experience creating governance artefacts (metadata, glossaries, data lineage).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Purview or similar tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to gather and document data management requirements.
  • Support Data Owners to manage critical data assets, data quality, governance controls and accountability.
  • Maintain governance artefacts including metadata, business glossaries, data lineage and data catalogues.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills who is eager to grow their data expertise in a supportive and collaborative environment.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesPartner with business and technology stakeholders to gather and document data management requirements.Support Data Owners to manage critical data assets, data quality, governance controls and accountability.Maintain key governance artefacts including metadata, business glossaries, data lineage and data catalogues.Investigate and help resolve data quality issues, working with stakeholders to improve data accuracy and trust.Contribute to projects and initiatives that strengthen data governance, data management processes and tools, including how we better classify & retain data through technology e.g. Microsoft Purview.Promote adoption of BDO's Data Management Framework through training, stakeholder engagement and best practice guidance.Build strong relationships across the business to support effective use, management and governance of data.Contribute to the continuous improvement of data governance frameworks, standards, policies and tools.Skill/Attribute requiredStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve data-related issues.Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into practical outcomes.Ability to collaborate across business and technology teams to drive data governance and best practices.A proactive mindset with a passion for improving data quality, governance and business outcomes.Qualifications and Experience required3+ years' experience in a medium to large organisation.Experience in data governance, business analysis, data quality, information management, compliance or a related field.
