Job summary

ANU College of Asia & the Pacific seeks an experienced Senior Manager 1 (Specialist) to lead the ACCESS-NRI Data Team. You will oversee data management, sharing and long-term usability across the ACCESS community, guiding data stewardship and scalable data practices.

This continuing, contingent-funded role requires collaboration, mentoring and stakeholder engagement, with responsibility for data services, HPCD platforms and cross-disciplinary work.

Qualifications

• Leading collaborative teams, including prioritising work, mentoring others and building a supportive team environment
• Data engineering or software development approaches that improve how scientific data is managed, processed and shared
• Data stewardship, including policies, metadata, curation and standards across the data lifecycle
• Communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Developing or supporting data services, tools and workflows for large scientific datasets
• Experience with HPCD or other large-scale computing platforms
• Knowledge of climate/earth system data formats, standards and conventions
• Experience with Python
• Data pipelines, workflow automation or scalable data analysis approaches
• Cloud, object storage or hybrid HPC/cloud environments

Responsibilities

• Oversee the ACCESS-NRI Data Team and its work to support data management, sharing and long-term usability across the ACCESS community
• Lead data management and stewardship through development of technical capabilities for data-intensive research
• Embed scalable data practices across ACCESS modelling workflows and support the Merit Allocation scheme
• Mentor staff and collaborate with other team leads; balance maintenance with new projects and longer-term priorities
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to a cross-disciplinary, inclusive workplace and develop staff capacity
