Job summary

Flight Centre Travel Group is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Corporate Data & Insights team in South Bank, Brisbane. You will design and optimise data pipelines, models, and lakehouse data assets to power business decisions, collaborating with BI developers and data scientists.

The role blends hands-on data engineering with governance, security, and performance tuning in a hybrid work setting, offering diverse stakeholders, modern Azure-based tools, and a strong culture of learning.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines and integrations.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Spark SQL.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts (dim modelling, star schemas).
• Hands-on with Azure data tools (Azure Synapse, Databricks).

Day in the life:

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading data into data lakes and lakehouse environments
• Create and implement data models that support business requirements and analytical outcomes
• Integrate data from internal and external systems to provide consistent and accurate information assets
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with data governance requirements
• Optimise data platforms, infrastructure, and processes to improve performance and scalability
• Build reliable data solutions capable of handling large volumes of information
• Implement security controls that protect sensitive data and support privacy requirement
• Collaborate with BI Developers, Data Scientists, Data Architects, Infrastructure Engineers, Application Engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver data assets
• Evaluate and recommend emerging data engineering tools and technologies
• Troubleshoot data issues and provide effective solutions to support smooth operations
• Support data-driven decision making by ensuring data is available, accessible, and fit for purpose

You will thrive in the role, if you have:

• 4+ years’ experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and data integration solutions
• Proficiency in Python, SQL and Spark SQL for data transformation and processing
• Solid understanding of data warehousing and data modelling concepts (e.g. dimensional modelling, star schemas, medallion architecture)
• Hands-on experience with Azure cloud data and ETL tools, such as Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks
• Experience using Git for version control and Azure DevOps for CI/CD and work management
• Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills
• The ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders
