Job summary

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join the Systems team in Perth on an initial 6-month engagement, contributing to a modern data platform that supports mine planning and Technical Services.

You will design scalable data pipelines using Snowflake, dbt Core, SQL and Python, focusing on data modelling (Data Vault and dimensional modelling), performance optimisation and high-quality, maintainable code in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on proficiency with SQL, dbt Core, Snowflake and Python.
• Experience with Data Vault and Dimensional Modelling.
• Designing and maintaining production-grade data transformation pipelines.
• Understanding of query optimisation and scalable data architectures.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving in fast-paced delivery environments.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the core development and enhancement of the data platform.
• Design and build scalable, reusable dbt models and macros.
• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines using dbt Core and Snowflake.
• Refactor and optimise the existing codebase to improve performance, scalability and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot data issues and identify opportunities to optimise Snowflake query performance.
• Write clean, efficient and well‑documented code aligned with engineering best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and collaborative problem‑solving.
• Work closely with the broader Systems team to deliver reliable data solutions supporting mine planning and Technical Services.
