Job summary

OFX, a Sydney-based financial operations leader, seeks a Data Engineer to build and optimize data pipelines across AWS/GCP. You will implement testing, monitoring, and handover processes within an agile data team.

With 5+ years in data engineering, experience with data warehouse tech (BigQuery preferred), SQL, and Python or Java, you’ll join a hybrid work environment and contribute to scalable, secure data solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably in financial services, Fintech or similar industries.
• Experience with data warehouse technology (GCP BigQuery preferred).
• Cloud Messaging, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Serverless SQL in either AWS or GCP.
• Capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning of relational databases.
• Backup and recovery of corporate databases.
• Policies and procedures governing corporate database operations.
• Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment.
• Proficient in SQL and an object-oriented language (Python and/or Java preferred).
• Data modelling and data analysis experience.

Responsibilities

• Create new data pipeline, maintain/debug existing data pipelines which pull data from a variety of source systems.
• Work within a wider engineering team, adopting and contributing to best practices for software development and cloud architecture.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues with guidance from senior engineers and communicate status updates to key stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to our systems and processes.
• Develop appropriate testing and monitoring, as well as providing handover and technical escalation support.
